Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"We enjoyed our experience at number 8 so much. We came for a glass of wine one night before dinner and looked at the menu and decided to come back the next night. Zian helped us with the menu. She was very patient and helped us choose the right dish. We had the filet and the chicken with mushrooms. We both loved ours. I got the kids cersion because I wasn’t as hungry. It was wonderful and Zian was so helpful and fun to talk to!"
"Exceptional service. Food and quality was really great owner provided great service and also food. I really wish there were more places like this in NZ, its really refreshing to eat quality meat from NZ. Really cared about my dietary restrictions. Overall phenonomal experience and food. Thank you so much highly recommended. I ordered the eye fillet and also the carpaccio."
"Excellent meal. All the meats are sourced locally. Ribs fall off the bone (one of the best I’ve had ever), tomahawk steak juicy and perfectly cooked. Staff is super friendly. Highly recommend, one of our best meals on this trip."
"The food was amazing, lamb stew and tomahawk. Loved the service and warmth of the staff, especially Zian (will remember your Revathi anecdote :) ) Ambience is average and especially to the price, it needed a bit more class. Didn’t like the fact that water was in an open jug especially with seating outside. It’s all street parking, so if you are tourist with a car, it would take a while to find a parking on the nearby streets, especially on Sat evening when we tried, maybe it was busier than usual, not sure."
"Excellent restaurant, fabulous food. Try the venison (medium rare?). It’s brilliant, particularly with black garlic sauce. And the prices are good - 40 NZ dollars for a main is very good value. No need for extras. Its a complete meal. Highly recommended. Oh, and the staff - friendly and helpful."
"The three of us came from Hamilton to celebrate Tete C’s birthday, and it was absolutely worth the trip! The staff were friendly, attentive, they even helped taking us photos for us so we could capture the memories together. The food was delicious; beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. Every dish we had was satisfying and memorable. Thank you for helping us celebrate such a special day. We left happy, full, and grateful. We’ll definitely be back!"
"We ordered the Meat Board for Two with mushroom sauce and black garlic butter, and it was fantastic. The meat was cooked just right—juicy and tender. I had never tried black garlic butter before, and it was a delicious addition to the steaks. The kids' meals were reasonably priced, and both my daughters finished everything and wanted more. Overall, it was definitely worth it. Definitely come back again on our next Rotorua trip. - Family from Auckland."
"Food was excellent and reasonably priced. We went there twice. Service is efficient and nice. Everything was very tasty and we particularly enjoyed the "garden salad"."
